It was 1st of January. My friend Rishab came to me asking whether I would come with him to Omkareshwar. Tough it was new year I haven't made any plans about the day. So I decided to go with him. We were fortunate that Rohit and Nishant also agreed to come with us. With a gang of four we went out of the campus to start our journey. It was about two days that a friend of mine Akhil who is interested in railways said me that the train route to Khandwa has been closed in order to convert that route into broad gauge from meter gauge.
He also said about the scenery of the route. I was interested to travel in a meter gauge but that fact put me down. But still we inquired about it at Rau railway station. They said the same thing but pointed that it will be open till some place which we do not know. So we decided to go by bus. In order to get a bus to omkareshwar we have to go to Mhow. We reached Mhow by a bus.
It was 11 A.M then. In Mhow we inquired about the train again. Fortunately they said that there is a train to Omkareshwar Road on the meter guage route. We took the ticket each costed 15 bucks which is at a very affordable rate. Then we went out of the station to eat something. We had some minor snacks and got back to the railway station. The train arrived at 1.00 P.M. It was the first time I ever saw a meter gauge rail and a train which runs with coal on that.

Train on meter track!!! |
With full of enthusiasm we got into the train. The train was quite rush with people. It resembles old trains shown in some old movies. Inside the train there are two benches facing each other in each cabinet apart from the place to put luggage on each side. The path to walk is on the right side.

Our GANG!!! |
The train was quite slow in the beginning. I heard before from my friend Akhil that the route passes beside a water fall, goes into the tunnel and woods. I was bit excited to see all of those. After travelling for about half an hour people are peeping into the windows to see something. I wondered and asked on of them. He said that Pathalapani water fall will be visible from the train in few minutes. I was exited and was ready with my mobile camera to snap pics of that. There were many people near the spot. However I wasn't able to shoot the waterfall at right time I managed to take a video of that.

As soon as Pathalpani station arrived many people got down in that station and train was free now. Moving ahead the scenery was awesome on the right side window. Fortunately we are on the right side itself. Slowly the train took its speed tough it managed to stop at some important scenic spots for a while. With in a quite few time the train passed through a tunnel. Its was the first time for me travelling through a tunnel.

It was 80 km journey. In between we came through some of the most primitive places in India. People also looked the same. But they were very pleasant. Rishab actually wants to live a life like them away from traffic, concrete jungles, etc..,
PICS OF Kalakund railway station.
Mean while the train stopped in some interesting stations. One of them is Choral. There is a dam in Choral the choral dam itself on the river Narmada. There were many monkeys in choral railway station and also the train stopped from much time in choral.

Later as we passed by we reached Omkareshwar road after crossing mighty narmada river. We got down there and took an auto rickshaw to Omkareshwar. We went to the river and hired a motorized boat to reach bath ghat (forgive..I don't know the term.). The place itself was awesome. It was rocky. It resembled varanasi.

Later on we had a Dharsan of god Shiva. Omkareshwar is one of the very few Jyotirlingas(Probably only 18 in the world). It can be noted that the temple closes after 6.00P.M. After that we returned back to the campus by catching a bus to Indore.
